Nokia becomes top Windows Phone vendor after just one quarter

Nokia was late to the game with regard to Windows Phone (among other things). The Finnish phone giant announced early last year that it would be dumping Symbian in favor of Microsoft’s mobile platform, and its first two Windows Phones were unveiled in October, about a year after Samsung, HTC and other companies first launched similar devices. Despite the head start enjoyed by its rivals, however, it took Nokia less than one quarter to become the top Windows Phone vendor in the world

Verisign, the company that manages the registry database of all .com and .net domains on the Internet, had earlier announced that the registration /renewal fees for .com and .net domains would go up on January 15, 2012. Verisign will increase the registry fee for .com domain names from $7.34 to $7.85 while the registry fee for .net domain names will increase from $4.65 to $5.11

If you are a fan of Steve Jobs and like to remember him by reading the new biography of his life and watching, some of the old interviews Jobs gave you will appreciate this. Back in 1995 after Jobs left Apple he did an interview with a man named Robert Cringely for a show that was airing in 1996 on PBS as a miniseries called Triumph of the Nerds: The Rise of Accidental Empires. The show focused on the computer and rise of Silicon Valley.

Remember the Zen X-Fi3 , that little, bitty portable media player that we spent a bit of hands-on time with, back in September? Well, the FCC has had its crack at the thing, and the agency wasn’t quite as kind, ripping pint-sized music player apart and displaying its innards for all the world to see, which might be for the best, really. While the outsides of the device aren’t particularly exciting, the player’s got some stuff going on under the hood, like built-in Bluetooth, which the company claims can stream high-quality audio courtesy of the apt-X codec
