Pioneer Computers DreamBook ePad A10 Win 7 slate goes on sale

Slate-style computers aren’t unusual – we’ve seen plenty of them this year, spurred on by iPad envy – but finding one up for sale is still relatively rare. Australian firm Pioneer Computers seem to have just that, though; their DreamBook ePad A10 is apparently available to order now, priced from AU$599 (US$512), running Windows 7 on a choice of Intel Atom N455 or N475 processors

Libretto W100: has Toshiba delivered Courier?

Put the promo shots of the new Toshiba Libretto W100 next to the leaked renders of Microsoft’s Courier project and you’d be forgiven for assuming one is the production version of the other. When I talked to Toshiba late last week at a preview for the new Libretto, however, they were keen to distance their new gadget from what was described by one team member as “only ever a design study”.

Dual-touchscreens, a clamshell book/netbook form-factor and a custom finger-friendly UI: the Toshiba Libretto W100 has broken the mold, and while the company concedes its resemblance to the Microsoft Courier renders, they’re insisting it’s a very different product. Based around two 7-inch capacitive touchscreen displays, a Pentium U5400 processor and a 62GB SSD, the Libretto W100 is the first such device to run Windows 7 and can be used either as a regular mini-notebook – complete with various on-screen keyboards – or as a digital book. ITG xpPhone functioning at Computex, we go head-on (video)

We’ve been hearing about / poking fun of ITG’s xpPhone since June of last year , but amazingly enough, we’d yet to actually see one in the flesh until today. Slyly stuck in the back corner of Microsoft’s Computex booth were a trio of xpPhones, at least one of which was shockingly functional. As the story goes, the company has decided to axe Windows XP in favor of a much more lightweight version of WinXP Embedded, and responsiveness seemed suitable enough given the circumstances
