midbot makes your notebook into a robot controlled online
Sep 3rd

I like robots, but I won’t really be interested in one for my house until they can clean for me or mow the lawn. Once that milestone is hit, I will get out the credit card and buy one. I will admit that the though of a remote-controlled laptop computer robot is very cool and has me ready to reach for my wallet

Lenovo ThinkCentre A70z Giveaway!
Jun 29th

If there’s one thing we love, it’s giving away free stuff to SlashGear readers, and Lenovo have stepped in to help us do just that. They’ve given us a Lenovo ThinkCentre A70z all-in-one desktop PC to give away, the 19-inch slimline computer we reviewed back in April , and we’ve come up with a super-simple way for you to stand a chance of putting it on your desk. Lenovo reckon the ThinkCentre A70z takes up around a third of the space of a regular desktop computer, by squeezing display, processor, hard-drive and the rest into one compact chassis

They’re not a failed attempt at Belgian jigsaw camouflage or a trophy from clown school, these colorful lycra gloves are the vital component in a new gestural user input system developed by researchers at MIT. When used with a standard webcam and some clever software, the wearer’s hand movements are instantaneously translated into on-screen commands or control gestures

Panasonic launches Skype for 2010 VIERA Cast TVs
May 18th

We managed to get an early look at Panasonic’s TV-friendly implementation of Skype back at CES in January, but the company has just now finally activated the app on all of its 2010 VIERA Cast-enabled TVs (including the VT25, VT20, G25, and G20 Series). To take advantage of it, however, you’ll also have to shell out $170 for Panasonic’s TY-CC10W webcam, which supports both VGA and 720p video, and packs four unidirectional microphones, an echo canceling system, and some beam-forming technology that promises to deliver clear audio over a typical TV viewing distance of three to four meters. Head on past the break for the complete press release, as well as Panasonic’s requisite old-people-don’t-get-technology ad for the TVs.

Report blames IT for bad procedures in school "spying" case
May 6th
![]()
An “independent” investigation into the Lower Merion School District laptop scandal has concluded that there’s no evidence that students were being spied on. This is despite the existence of 58,000 photos surreptitiously taken of students on or around their computers and e-mails between district IT people commenting on the entertainment value of the photos. The 72-page report (PDF) from law firm Ballard Spahr claims, however, that most of the photos were not seen by anyone and that the district merely failed to implement proper. . .
