Engadget is reporting that HTC EVO 4G owners may be getting Android Deuce Deuce as soon as this weekend. The blog received a whole heap of Sprint corporate slides that detail a launch plan; the plan includes an official announcement scheduled for tomorrow and code rollout beginning on August 1st.

Apple conducts probe into iPhone 3G iOS4 issues

Apple fans still rocking the iPhone 3G and 3GS who were fast to grab up the new iOS 4 operating system when it was made available for the smartphones were also the first to realize the new OS has some issues on older handsets. The WSJ reports that Apple is currently probing reported issues with iOS 4 on the iPhone 3G.

In Apple’s press conference, Apple concluded that it was a common problem that most smartphones would face signal problems while holding them. According to Apple, the iPhone 4 only drops slightly more calls then the iPhone 3GS – it’s just a very small fraction – less than 1 more call per 100. So there was nothing about any software/hardware fix or recall of the iPhone 4s to resolve the antenna problem

These five Nexus One smartphones may seem to have defects, but there’s actually nothing wrong with their AMOLED screens — the funky colors are an attempt to improve battery life by turning off unnecessary sub-pixel LEDs. Hooking up his handset to an industrial power meter, Android engineer Jeff Sharkey discovered a blood-red screen drew 42 percent less current than full color — the least of any combination by far — purportedly doubling the effective battery life of the phone. LG launches new applications store for both smartphones and feature phones

LG officially opened the doors to its online applications store on Thursday. The app store offers social networking, navigation, VoIP, and instant messaging applications for both feature phones and Windows OS phones. LG will expand its offerings to include an estimated 4,000 applications — including those for Android-powered smartphones – by the end of the year.

Netflix hiring Android developers, client on the way

It appears as though Netflix is hiring an Android developer to “help build [an] Instant Streaming client implementation on Android devices.” Obviously, the good news would be that an official Netflix app — that would allow subscribers to watch Instant Queue movies right on their handsets — appears to be on the way. The bad news is that it may still be a while until we actually see said app. What do you think of the Netflix Instant Queue on your mobile
