Toshiba has unveiled their latest ultraportable, the Toshiba Portégé R700, and while it may look like your average thin-and-light in some key ways it’s actually pretty unique. The 13.3-inch R700 – which will also go on sale as the consumer-focussed Satellite R630 – uses a new airflow cooling system that, by pulling in cool air over the hotter components, rather than pushing out hot air, means Toshiba can not only use regular Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processors rather than their less-powerful ULV counterparts, but do so in a machine that stays cool to the touch. First impressions & hands-on video after the cut It’s also the thinnest and lightest ODD-equipped laptop in Europe, with a magnesium chassis, honeycomb palm-rest and a motherboard that, thanks to collaboration with Intel, is one-third the size of what you’d find in rival machines.

Toshiba ’s first MID (Mobile Internet Device) has made its debut, in the shape of the Android-based Toshiba AC100. Using a form-factor we’d more commonly describe as a netbook or smartbook – Toshiba say they picked the classic design over a more common slate-style MID because it’s more familiar for users and offers better ergonomics and text-entry – the AC100 runs NVIDIA’s second-generation Tegra 250 chipset making it 1080p HD capable. Right on the heels of a rumor out of Vietnam , Apple has updated its white entry-level MacBook Tuesday morning. Just as expected, the machine comes equipped with a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor and the same NVIDIA 320M used in the latest revision of the 13″ MacBook Pro. Bus speed, installed RAM, and hard drive remain the same as before at 1066MHz, 2GB, and 250GB respectively

Sony VAIO P refreshed: 3G, accelerometer & more

The TouchSmart tm2 wasn’t in among the notebooks HP refreshed earlier this week , but according to NewGadget.de the convertible touchscreen PC will be getting an update of its own by the end of June 2010.  Their sources reckon the 12.1-inch notebook will junk its existing Core 2 Duo SU7300 in favor of Intel’s Core i3 and i5 processors, giving it a much-welcome speed boost. There’s no word of any other changes, so we’re presuming the tm2 will keep its WXGA capacitive touchscreen that can be controlled both by pen-input and by finger control
