If you’ve ever felt the burning urge to mirror your smartphone’s display onto a larger screen, then you might consider stuffing GeChic’s portable, 13.3-inch monitor into the ol’ man purse for your next wayward outing. We’re not promising that it’ll be simple, but in addition to supporting laptops, game consoles and digital cameras, you can also rig up your smartphone to the On-Lap 1302 monitor — with the assistance of a tangle of adapters, batteries and cords, that is. The product is said to be just 8mm thick, but most importantly, this 1366 x 768 display can be powered either from your laptop’s USB port or an external battery pack.
Whitman expects HP Windows 8 Intel tablet this year

Looks like old Fujitsu isn’t the only PC-maker looking to get into the Windows 8 tablet business before year’s end. Addressing a conference in Northern California, HP CEO Meg Whitman let it be known that her company plans on pushing out an Intel-packing tablet running the new Microsoft operating system in 2012.

Dropbox app drops the beta: automatic photo upload goes official on Android, coming soon to iOS

While those lucky beta testers managed to get a healthy lump of extra Dropbox storage for their efforts , the mobile app’s new auto-upload feature has officially arrived. The update is now available on Android devices and we’re promised that the Apple-flavored update will appear very soon. We’ve been playing with the beta for the last few weeks, and it’s pretty simple stuff, maintaining the file size of your mobile shots and delivering them to Dropbox’s storage in the sky.

Intel joins the Document Foundation, pimps LibreOffice

You’re forgiven if you missed this little blip on the news radar: Intel has joined the advisory board of the Document Foundation and added the coalition’s LibreOffice to the AppUp market. What’s more, Chipzilla actually worked with SUSE to help optimize the free and open source office suite for Intel hardware and, as part of the advisory board, will be providing the project with significant monetary support.

SanDisk has developed a chip that earns it membership in the exclusive 128-gigabit club . Not content with simply matching the Micron / Intel effort, SanDisk and its partner Toshiba claim their new memory uses 19- rather than 20-nanometer cells in the production process. Shrinking the size is one thing, but SanDisk’s new chips also use its X3 / three-bit technology.

HP reports Q1 2012 financials: $30 billion net revenue, $1.5 billion net earnings, big drop in PC sales

HP reported results for its first fiscal quarter of 2012 this afternoon, including $30 billion in net revenue (down seven percent from the previous year), and net earnings of $1.5 billion (down a full 44 percent). Partly contributing to that drop is a slump from its Personal Systems Group, which saw revenue slip 15 percent year-over-year, and total desktop and notebook units decline a rather drastic 19 and 18 percent, respectively
