Pentax has revealed its latest DSLR, the 12.4-megapixel Pentax K-r, complete with a new 35mm lens to go with it. The K-r – which will be available not only in sober black but in Stormtrooper white and brazen hussy red – has a 3-inch 920k dot LCD display, 6fps shooting for up to 25 frames, in-camera HDR editing and a 100 – 25600 ISO range. It can also record 25fps 720p HD video, packs an 11 point SAFOX IX autofocus system and has a maximum 1/6000 second shutter speed

Canon has announced the development of a new CMOS sensor that is APS-H-size and has a resolution of up to 120-megapixels. Canon says that the sensor is the highest resolution in the world for its size

Sony has announced its latest high-end DSLRs, the 16.2-megapixel A580 and 14.2-megapixel A560, each capable of Full HD video recording and up to 7fps stills. Both models get a new, 15-point phase-detection autofocus system, the 3D sweep panorama we’ve seen from the NEX-5 and SteadyShot INSIDE in-body sensor shift image stabilisation.

Silicon Power has unveiled a new external portable hard drive called the Armor A80. The new HDD uses a USB 3.0 interface and is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 as well. The HDD is rugged, meets US military standards for drop survivability, and is water resistant to IPX7 standards

Pentax 645D Japan launch delayed; 40MP sample shots revealed

As reasons for delaying a product launch go, overly “high demand” isn’t something you can complain too loudly about, but all the same we imagine there are some disappointed Japanese photography geeks out there right now. Pentax Japan have delayed the launch of their 645D medium format DSLR , claiming to have been surprised by the number of orders received; instead, the 645D will drop on June 11th

Sony NEX-7 with 1080p coming later in 2010

Sony’s NEX-3 and NEX-5 are all well and good, but with high definition recording topping out at 1080/60i there’s a distinct lack of 1080p HD goodness in the range. According to EOSHD’s sources – previously accurate in their NEX predictions – that’ll be taken care of with the Sony NEX-7 later in the year. That camera will use an APS-C chip, though a different one to what’s found in the NEX-3/5, capable of 1080p@60, 1080p@24 and 720p@120/60 for super slow-motion.
