Looks like old Fujitsu isn’t the only PC-maker looking to get into the Windows 8 tablet business before year’s end. Addressing a conference in Northern California, HP CEO Meg Whitman let it be known that her company plans on pushing out an Intel-packing tablet running the new Microsoft operating system in 2012.

Google’s Nexus tablet may enter production in April

Speculation surrounding an own-brand Google tablet began late last year when Google chairman Eric Schmidt was quoted as saying the company planned to soon “ market a tablet of the highest quality .” The slate is expected by many to be a 7-inch Nexus-branded device that will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and compete with the Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet at $199.

Microsoft branding cull leaks plus Office 15 tablet UI tease

Microsoft is set to retire the Zune and Windows Live brands with Windows 8 , it’s reported, as well as offer a switchable tablet/desktop UI in the Office 15 apps for increased finger-friendliness. The so-called “Touch Mode” button has been spotted in the Office 15 technical preview  but is not yet functional, according to ZDNet ‘s source, but which will presumably boost icon size among other tweaks for those using the software in Metro mode on tablets and touchscreen all-in-ones. As for Microsoft’s streamlined branding, it appears the company’s pre-installed apps will be ditching the traditional Zune and Windows Live nomenclature in favor of more straightforward terms.
