Windows 7 is the latest version of Microsoft Windows operating systems. Since its public release at retail availability last October 2009, Windows 7 have been performing well and have not encountered problems. Well, just yet. When it comes to OS upgrade or change, one thing in mind floats for any user and that is, “will it be compatible to any existing application?”Reports from Microsoft, Windows 7 is running well with numbers of application. Their effort to avoid the hiccups that plagued its predecessor, Windows Vista, has been successful. Though it’s been more than two months since its last release, we have heard numerous good signs already. Microsoft had just released its Windows 7 Application Compatibility list for IT pros. You may download the excel format from there and check if your favorite applications will run with Windows 7. For individuals whose apps do malfunction on Windows 7, there are multiple potential solutions:
- Run the ‘troubleshoot application compatibility’ feature in Windows 7. It will detect what OS environment the app runs best in, and then simulates it under Windows 7.
- Use Windows 7’s built-in virtualization for Windows XP, called XP Mode.
- Or run a third-party virtualization app such as VMware Inc.’s free VMware Player or the for-fee VMware Workstation.
